Vision- The Big Brothers Big Sisters vision is successful mentoring relationships for all children who need and want them, contributing to brighter futures, better schools, and stronger communities for all.
Our Impact
In 1995 a nation-wide scientific study of the Big Brothers Big Sisters community-based program showed that children matched to a Big Brother or Big Sister are:
- 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
- 27% less likely to begin using alcohol
- 52% less likely to skip school
- 37% less likely to skip a class
- more confident of their performance in schoolwork
- one-third less likely to hit someone
- getting along better with their families
An additional study of the school-based mentoring program has shown that of all children matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister in school:
- 58% improved their school performance
- 65% showed higher levels of self-confidence
- 55% had a better attitude toward school
